Let’s be honest here folks. Is there anyone other than LeBron James that should win the NBA MVP this year? Of course there isn’t.
Taking nothing away from Houston’s James Harden and Golden State’s Steph Curry, who have both had tremendous seasons themselves, there can only be one MVP and it really isn’t close.
James won’t win the award, which is a joke, but neither did Michael Jordan after the writers got tired of voting for him year in and year out.
Of course Jordan was the MVP in the ’92-’93 season as well as in ’96-’97. He wasn’t awarded the trophy those years, but he should have.
James has won the MVP four times in his career following the ’08-’09, ’09-’10, ’11-’12, and ’12-’13 seasons.
James is not only the MVP on the court, but off the court as well. Is there a team that has built their team better for the playoffs than the Cavaliers from one season to the next? Nope. The reason? LeBron James. He is no doubt involved in every trade and player acquisition made in Cleveland.
Not only do teams that James play on win, but his teammates also improve. Everyone in Cleveland knew Kyrie Irving was a tremendous talent, but was he a true ‘superstar’? With the arrival of James, ‘Uncle Drew’ has improved as an overall player on both sides of the court.
There isn’t a player in the league who means more to his team than James does. The LeBron led Cavs won 66 and 61 games his last two seasons in his first stint in Cleveland. When he ‘took his talents to South Beach,’ the Cavs won 19, 21, 24 and 33 games in his absence.
James comes back to Cleveland and the Cavs are the Vegas favorites to win the NBA Championship. Meanwhile the Miami Heat are going to finish this season with nearly 20 more losses than last year.
The Cavs won their fourth Central Division title in franchise history this season thanks to James. From January 15 thru April 8th, when the Cavs clinched the number two seed in the playoffs, the Cavs owned the league’s best record at 32-7. Not only did they have the best record, but they also led the league in points/game differential at +10.6.
MVP’s aren’t won in October, November and December. They’re won in the second half of the season, which is why I’m using that magical January 15th start date.
For those that want to argue that LeBron and the Cavs play in the weaker Eastern Conference, let’s see how the James’ led Cavs fared against the Western Conference.
The Cavs are an NBA best 14-1 versus the West since January 15th, outscoring their western counterparts by an average of 11.4 ppg. Seven of their fourteen wins came against teams that would be in the playoffs if the season started today and an eighth team they beat (OKC) is tied with the eighth seeded New Orleans Pelicans but would not make the playoffs due to the tiebreaker.
The Cavs have won an NBA high six games by 30 or more points this season. The reason? Lebron James.
The Cavs 22 point win over Memphis on March 25th was the largest in team history on the road over a team that was at least 20 games over .500. The reason? LeBron James.
The Cavs set a franchise record with nine wins by 25 or more points this season. The reason? LeBron James.
Who’s the only player in the NBA that is averaging 25 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists this season? That would be LeBron James.
I’ll go “Jeopardy” on this answer. This NBA player leads the league in fourth quarter scoring, averaging 7.2 points. Who is, LeBron James? Correct!
Even though LeBron James won’t win the MVP award this season, it won’t be because he doesn’t deserve to. He absolutely does. For some reason, most voters can’t acknowledge that.
